LOS ANGELES (AP) — HBO and James Gandolfini’s managers say the actor famous for “The Sopranos” has died in Italy.

Emmy-award winning actor James Gandolfini, best known for his portrayal of Tony Soprano on the HBO mobster drama “The Sopranos,” died, HBO confirms. He was 51.

In a press release, HBO spokesperson Mara Mikialian said Gandolfini died of a possible heart attack while vacationing in Italy.

Gandolfini won three Emmy’s for his portrayal of a conflicted New Jersey mob boss. According to Deadline, he was in the works to star in a new limited series for HBO, called Criminal Justice.
