Review: Rihanna’s Loud Tour

Dialogue Magazine – Rihanna brings out an eclectic group of fans: beautiful to eccentric. A creative enthusiastic bunch nontheless.

Proceeding Rihanna was a DJ to get the “Rihanna Navy,” as her fans like to be called, hyped with a mixture of Old and New School classics. The opening act J Cole, the first artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, kept the crowd engaged.

As anticipation built, the stage lit up with a video montage of Rihanna and the crowd erupted, leaving their seats, hands in the air, waving and clutching their cell phones for photos and videos. Rihanna rises from beneath the stage encapsulated in an illuminated sphere, in a shiny blue dress, and dancers in bright primary colored outfits to begin the show.

The lights go down and when they come back up, Rihanna emerges in a sexy, multi-colored bra and panty set. A vibrant feeling was evident throughout the show, from Rihanna’s scorching red hair, a canary yellow dress, reflective blue dress, shiny silver dress, the dancer’s neon outfits, colorful backgrounds, lights, to the large video screens in the background, confetti and fireworks. All reminiscent of the colorful videos of the 80’s and maybe the Cross Colors era of the early 90’s with a Caribbean vibe.

True to the sex symbol she‘s become, the show was very sexy. From the subtle: Rihanna’s tight or low cut outfits, and provocative dance moves. To blatant: a very seductive bump and grind session with Rihanna on top of a lucky fan that wowed the crowd. However she switches from sexy to sensual with ease when performing the ballads with a pianist and guitarist.

An energetic show from start to finish with constant dancing, playing to the crowd, the hurling of t-shirts from a tank-like cannon into the crowd, and on two separate occasions leaving the stage to run through the crowd, leaving it in a uproar. The first run to play a set of drums at the opposite end of the arena during a cover of Sheila E’s “Glamorous Life.” The second seemed to keep the crowd in a frenzy. All of the popular songs, from “Umbrella” to “Man Down” were performed along with lesser known material–the crowd standing and singing throughout it all.

If you are looking to be entertained, you will get your money’s worth. Whether you’re a part of “Rihanna’s Navy” or a casual fan, you will appreciate the energy put into each song’s performance and the creativity of the show. Below is a list of the upcoming tour dates.
